Hybrid Insulation System

A hybrid insulation system combines two of the most popular insulators: spray foam insulation and fiberglass batt insulation. This is a great option for insulating open cavities in new construction or remodeling projects. A hybrid insulation system provides excellent energy efficiency at a lower price than installing full spray foam. Hybrid insulation is installed in two stages:

  • One inch of closed cell spray foam insulation is applied
  • When in place, a fiberglass batt is placed over the top of the foam

Whitson Insulation Company also uses JM Spider insulation equipment in hybrid insulation systems. In this case, first spray foam insulation is installed followed by JM Spider insulation.

JM Spider

The JM Spider custom insulation system is a type of cavity spray fiberglass insulation. It is engineered to completely fill cavities (such as open walls) prior to installing drywall. It is different than dense-packed fiberglass because of its adhesive-free fibers.

JM Spider is manufactured with interlocking fibers that spring and lock into open cavities when installed. Fibers stay in place without adhesive or installing behind netting. JM Spider fully fills gaps and voids with a quick drying time so your project can continue moving ahead on schedule.

Mineral Wool Insulation

Mineral wool insulation has gained significant popularity as an alternative to other insulation options. The mineral wool insulation R-value is similar to that found in other insulation products, and it is developed from inorganic fibers, making it naturally fire resistant.

Mineral wool insulation, also known as rock wool, is made from inorganic fibers derived from volcanic basalt rock. It is spun into fibers and manufactured into mineral wool batt insulation, rolls, or loose-fill insulation — the same forms found in fiberglass insulation.

Mineral wool insulation can be used in any application where fiberglass or other types of insulation is typically installed and increased fire resistance is desired.
